I saw an ad on tv for a company that will loan you money against a pending settlement. does anyone know the #?

has anyone done this? is it legitimate? My husband is awaiting a social security disability hearing. The hearing won’t be until April 2008 and we are in severe financial distress, about to lose our home. We need help and fast. Anyone know what we can do?

Not to bust your bubble but a social security hearing does not fall in line with the criteria needed for a ‘structured settlement‘.

Social security will NOT allow those types of transactions.

what companies like those do is they give you the money and then you have to sign the money over to them when it comes.
Obviously , it is not a dollar for dollar trade.
Say you are expecting 50k. they give you 35k now and you give up your rights to the 50k.

If you have a hearing in april, you might consider talking to a lawyer or an advocate right now since at the hearing stage, your husband has already been turned down a couple of times. If you do get a lawyer or an advocate, he/she is going to need to get paid (25% not to exceed 5k) and they get their money when and ONLY WHEN you get paid so they usually work agressively to make sure your case will be one that the judge approves.
In the meantime, talk to your mortgage company and let them know what is going on. If you have a social worker that is working on your husbands, case you might want to ask and see what is the criteria is for an emergency hearing (I know that they are used for terminally ill patients but I am not sure if the definition could be stretched to include your financial distress, but it would be worth it to ask your point of contact).
Best of luckin keeping your home
