Only about one-third of people in the United States have taken steps to prepare for a major emergency or natural disaster.

In a survey using a 1-to-10 scale on the non-profit Council for Excellence in Government’s Public Readiness Index ([http://www.whatsyourrq.org/thePRI.html]) – Our National Average was: 3.31

Amongst other things, people were asked if they knew about their communities disaster plan, how to find the emergency broadcasting channel on the radio, if they’d prepared a home disaster kit and established a meeting place for family members.

The study also found out that people older than 65 were less likely to be prepared than younger people.

My thoughts on this…

It scares me to think that so many people have not prepared.

I live in Evansville, IN and just last year we had a major tornado hit here that took 11 lives and left many, many people hurt and homeless. This tornado struck in the wee hours of night while people were sleeping. If they had had a Hazard Radio with audible alert so much loss of lives might have been prevented. If others had prepared a home disaster kit many could of been better provided for until help reached them.

I have to note here that the Police and other Emergency Departments had outstanding response times and were totally dedicated in helping the survivors.

In some major disasters help can’t get to everyone as quick.

Please… Get prepared and stay informed. Don’t wait.

It can happen to you, your family and your neighbors!
